Panther is set on the human colony Xenon, which is attacked by aliens. The priority is to evacuate the people, but unfortunately not everyone made it. The player takes the role of a pilot who mans the Panther aircraft to save the last remaining humans.

The game is a shooter with an isometric view. The player can move left and right and adjust the height. Reverse is not available and the movement speed depends on the height: the higher, the faster. This is most important when alien attack occurs. They always appear in batches and their shadows indicate their height. Now the player has the choice to evade or to fight back. However, the Panther can only take five hits.

To evade people, the player needs to land near them and wait until everyone is in. The game consists of several levels and the last has an additional gameplay mechanic: SAMs. Those mean the player can't fly high enough to go over the skyscrapers; he needs to fly around them. After reaching the evacuation ship the game loops back to the beginning; the goal being to reach a high score by saving many people.

Description from the packaging:

You take the part of the one remaining (what else?) pilot in the Federal force under attack in the city of Xenon. The alien invaders have swept away the defenses and all the population has been evacuated. Well, nearly all of it. There are still people in the city who must be brought out to the spaceport and safety. So all you have to do is fly through the city and pick them up, avoiding the enemy who have reached the city suburbs.

Those left behind are hiding in bunkers either in the city of the surrounding areas. The spaceport is on the other side of the city from where you are, so in order to rescue the silly personages who got themselves left behind you must land close to the bunkers as they appear in the screen, stay around until all the refugees have made it into your ship - whatever the aliens are doing to stop you- then move on as quickly as possible.
As the one and only poor sucker who can fly a Panther ground attack craft- you're hero for today.
